The Stetson Family walk the line between alt-country and bluegrass with their free-wheeling, spirited songs, awash with soaring harmonies. Described in American Songwriter Magazine as “champions of fresh bluegrass but with a bedraggled soul of rock and roots”, the band takes their audience on a journey down life’s crooked highway.
The acoustic five-piece band are regulars on the Melbourne music scene and national festival circuit, with highlights including Out On the Weekend (VIC), National Folk Festival (ACT), Cygnet Folk Festival (TAS), Nannup Festival (WA), Wintermoon Festival (QLD), Bangalow BBQ & Bluegrass (NSW), Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival (NSW), and Maldon Folk Festival (VIC). Their song ‘O Winding River’ was chosen from entries around the world to be showcased and performed at the International Bluegrass Music Association Showcase in Nashville, Tennessee.
Recently, they’ve been in the studio working on a new album with master engineer and producer Ernie Rose (Renee Geyer, Little River Band, Mondo Rock, Broderick Smith).
Their last release, ‘True North’, further established the band internationally as it broke out of Australia and onto US Americana charts (Roots Music Report/Alternate Root) and garnered stellar reviews in the US, UK, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Uruguay and everywhere in between, as well as making many ‘Best Of 2015’ lists. In 2013 their compilation album, ‘O Winding River’ hit mainstream charts in the US, spending time in the #1 spot on the Top 50 Bluegrass/Folk albums on the Global Radio Indicator Chart. The band was nominated for Best Duo/Group at the 2016 Victorian and National Country Music Awards.
"The Stetson Family blend like one of the legendary bluegrass or country families…their best material yet.” Rick Moore, American Songwriter and Music News Los Angeles.
“It’s with their originals that this band shines....their songs have the potential to become classics! “ Niall Toner, Prescription Bluegrass, Arizona
