Watty Thompson

Enigmatic powerhouse, Watty Thompson is emerging as a striking and entirely unique performer-songwriter in Australia’s storytelling tradition.
A little bit country, a little bit folk, and 100% heart, Watty’s high-energy sets impress upon those in the room an increasingly rare skill: the ability to lay bare and embrace the highs and lows of everything that makes us human.

He’s certainly got tongues wagging. In the first half of 2022, Watty joined Caitlin Harnett
& The Ponyboys as main support for the Sydney favourites’ Victorian tour. His sold-out headline shows at The Old Bar and Shotkickers (Melbourne) paved the way for a packed, now legendary five-week July residency at local hotspot, The Gem, landing Watty coveted upcoming appearances at Dashville Skyline (NSW), Queenscliff Music Festival (VIC) and Loch Hart Music Festival (VIC). And as if that didn’t cause enough chatter, his rollicking debut singles The Beauty That Surrounds Ya (2021) and Jenny (2022) have received celebrated, regular airplay on Double J, RRR and PBS (Melbourne) in just his first six months of performing.

Central to Watty’s undeniable charm is his knack for creating authentic connections with audiences. It comes willingly and naturally to this empathy-filled musician whose lyrics, approach and on-stage demeanor are full of all the joys and sorrows that make us who we are. It’s not unusual to see the full gamut of emotions exuded by those lucky enough to catch a set - from tears, to laughter, to wild dancing, and everything in-between.
