Hailing from the grit and grime of inner city Melbourne, renowned songwriter Cat Canteri intertwines bold guitar with poignant and poetic lyrics to create music that’s both fragile and life affirming. Her stunning voice adorns melodies crafted in her original take on folk/roots traditions, Canteri invites us to celebrate life together in all its mysterious roller-coaster glory.
On drums she's accompanied Kutcha Edwards, Mick Thomas and The Waifs’ Vikki Thorn. From Alt-Country outfit The Stillsons, to solo takes on folk, Indie-Pop and electrified roots, her songcraft always shines.
Canteri's 2014 solo debut 'When We Were Young' placed her country-folk meets indie-rock style at centre stage, receiving widespread critical acclaim in Australia and the UK it was picked up by legendary Whispering Bob Harris and featured on his BBC Radio 2 show.
Full of vocal chutzpah and her reckless guitar style, 2016's 'Late At Night' captured vitality and intimacy of her live shows and was featured on the ABC's The Music Show. Radiant urban vignettes and three-dimensional lyrics shone on 2018’s 'Inner North', with acclaim from international publication The Music Below USA “An impressive work of songwriting mastery", as well as closer to home with The Age ‘Album of The Week’ and a nomination for Best Folk/Roots Album in The Music Victoria Awards.
