The Beards are a bearded four-piece from Adelaide, South Australia, whose catalogue consists entirely of songs about beards and having beards. Onstage, The Beards preach about the virtues of having a beard with near-militant intensity. The beardless members of the crowd may find themselves singled out and chastised for their lack of facial hair as The Beards sing crowd favourites like If Your Dad Doesn’t Have a Beard, You’ve Got Two Mums, You Should Consider Sex with a Bearded Man and No Beard, No Good, while those with beards may be brought onstage as an example of what having a beard is all about. But as hilarious as this eccentric outfit are, they can be equally appreciated for their musical originality, instrumental ability and professionalism.

With styles ranging from folk to rock to jazz to reggae, The Beards prove themselves as talented musicians and diverse songwriters. The rhythm section of Nathaniel Beard, John Beardman and Facey McStubblington is complemented by the immensely talented front man, Johann Beardraven, who at any typical Beards show can be seen jumping from vocals to keyboard to saxophone to drums to guitar.

The Beards have gained a rapidly expanding cult following in Australia because of their relentless touring and amazing songs. Notable performances in the last 2- 3 years include the Falls Festival, The Big Day Out, Woodford Folk Festival, One Movement and of course their visit to Alaska to perform at the World Beard and Mustache Championship’s opening ceremony.

The Beards have always combined the brilliant and the comedic in creating content and this success of this is evident. Their first single ‘If Your Dad Doesn’t Have a Beard, You’ve Got Two Mums’ is has received almost 1,000,000 YouTube hits as well as the song receiving national attention on radio and commercial television.

The Beards recently released their third album ‘Having a Beard is the New Not Having a Beard’, The single ‘You Should Consider Having Sex With a Bearded Man’ was #99 in the Triple J hottest 100 and has been shortlisted for APRA’s Song of the Year.
